Water Ionizer Maintenance

Internal Cleaning

Just like a coffee maker, Water Ionizers require some maintenance. Descaling is a simple yet effective way in making sure your machine works at peak performance. We recommend you descale the machine at minimum 9 months when you change the filter. Citric Acid can be used in substitute.

  • Place the ionizer below the diverter adapter, this will ensure the solution soaks inside the machine and does not leak or run out through the residual hose.
  • Remove the internal filter by popping the top corner cover and unscrewing the cap, discard filter. Empty out any water in the chamber.
  • Pour the citric acid into a drinking glass (about 2 tablespoons) and fill with hot water, then stir solution.
  • Empty solution into filter chamber, wait 30 seconds and top off with any left over solution. Screw cap back on.
  • Let solution soak for no longer than 1-2 hours, then run warm water through your machine for 5 minutes.
  • Unscrew filter cap and insert new primed replacement filter & Done!

Aqua Ionizer Pro® Replacement Internal Filter:

Aqua Ionizer Deluxe® water ionizers use a standard internal filter which last 4000L or 9 months, whichever occurs first. If you have low pH, the internal mineral filter will be used which is good for 6 months.

This video will demonstrate how to replace the internal filter in just a few steps.

Something important to remember is priming the filter. Place the filter, rubber fitting side up, under running water for a few minutes.

Whenever you change the filter, you will want to reset the Filter Reset indicator, do so buy holding down the Filter Reset button until a beep occurs, about 10 seconds. It will illuminate again after 4000L liter passes.

External Filter Replacement (Dual Stage)

An optional but recommend accessory is the External Filtration option. This filter can be used with any Water Ionizer on the market, and removes things like fluoride, lead, heavy metals, chlorine, bacteria and much more. With general use the filters last 18 months or 8000L, whichever occurs first. If you have harder water you will need to replace these more often.

Watch the video and see how easy it is to replace the filters.

Once we receive your ionizer we perform the following:

  • 2 hours on our heavy duty descaling machine ensuring reduced buildup and improved flow rate.
  • pH testing and calibration if any settings are not testing correctly.
  • Replace any damaged parts or fittings following warranty policy.
  • Wipe down the machine.
  • Mail back to provided address.

pH Test

Before testing please double check that you are using water ionizer specific pH testing drops that have not expired.

Test strips do not work to test water ionizers and pH kits such as ones for fish tanks, pools, saliva, urine, etc will not properly test the water ionizer results.

If you need to order a correct pH test kit please contact us and we can help.

When you turn the water on be sure that two streams of water are coming out of your ionizer at the same time.
If only one stream is coming out please contact us for additional instructions.

If you have a Deluxe model ionizer, be sure that the process is showing on your screen when the water is turned on.

If the process is not showing please contact us for additional instructions.

If all of these are correct, please follow the steps below:

  • Grab three clear small juice glasses or shot glasses.
  • In one glass collect water directly from your water source such as your main faucet. Put 1-2 drops of the testing liquid into the water to test the pH of your source water.
  • Turn the water ionizer to the highest alkaline setting (Alkaline 5, Cooking, etc), turn the water on with low flow and let the water run through the machine for 15-20 seconds.
  • In the second glass collect the water coming out of the top of the machine and put 1-2 drops in the glass.
  • In the last glass collect the water coming out of the other stream and put 1-2 drops in the glass. You should see a color difference between the tap water, the high alkaline water, and the residual water.
  • Repeat the above steps for the strongest acidic setting and the drinking water setting (Alkaline 2).
